PAPER WORK EXAMPLES

Here are a few examples of paperwork I have created for various shows that have helped me as a Production Stage Manager and an Assistant Stage Manager. These documents have helped to keep me, as well as everyone on my team, organized. I have worked on several new plays and musicals where things are constantly changing, so the upkeep of documents like these have been crucial to staying ahead of any issues that may arise.

Paperwork Example:

SCENE CHANGE TRANSITIONS

SENSE AND SENSIBILITY at Syracuse Stage

The production of Sense and Sensibility that was produced at Syracuse Stage had a turntable as part of the set design.

I created this document to keep track of all the scene changes in the show. Each diagram has the act and scene number, which page the scene occurs on, what direction the turntable will move in the next transition, and assignments for actors and crew for any onstage moves.

This document was also shared on Google Slides so that everyone on the stage management team had access to these diagrams and could make edits to it as things changed in rehearsals.

This was a typical Shakespeare touring show where actors were playing multiple roles. I created this document during preproduction to use throughout the rehearsal process. This was especially helpful when working with the director to schedule rehearsals. By using this as a reference, we could easily plan out which scenes to work, and who would need to be present. Also helpful for when we started thinking about quick changes, since we knew ahead of time that most quick changes would need to happen in the span of a few lines.

Paperwork Example:

ACTOR/SCENE BREAKDOWN

HAMLET with The Acting Company

Paperwork Example:

ENTRANCE/EXIT PLOT

THE IRREPRESSIBLE MAGIC OF THE TROPICS at Intar Theater

This is an entrance/exit plot where some actors were playing multiple roles. So, this was created to help the costume designer start to figure out roughly how much time actors had offstage by giving them a page count. The show was blocked using a grid system, so entrances/exits were marked according to when the entrance/exit happened on the grid. This also helped for me to figure out costume and prop presets during the rehearsal process.

Also to help designers or anyone who viewed this document, there is a brief description of each scene in the far right column.
